Bremen ECORD Summer School 2026: “Past ocean currents and their effects on sedimentation and benthic ecosystems
Sep 7-18, 2026
Since 2007 Bremen Core Repository has hosted the annual Bremen ECORD Summer School at the MARUM, University of Bremen.
By hosting one of only three IODP3 core repositories in the world – the only one in Europe – the MARUM in Bremen offers a unique possibility to bring especially European PhD students and young Postdocs in touch with IODP at an early stage of their career, inform them about the actual research within this thrilling international scientific program, and to prepare them for future participations in IODP3 expeditions. Such training will be achieved by taking the summer school participants on a “virtual ship” where they get familiarized with a wide spectrum of state-of-the-art analytical technologies according to the high standards on IODP3 expeditions. Each year the two-week summer school has a defined scientific topic related to the IODP3 science plan that is reviewed by various scientific lectures and that also drives the school’s virtual ship training program.
