Participation in an IODP3 drilling expedition or a SPARC (Scientific Project using Ocean Drilling Archives) expedition is a prestigious opportunity and for many researchers it is a career-building experience through collaboration and networking with outstanding researchers from around the world.
Previous experience with scientific ocean drilling is not a prerequisite, and there is even no requirement to go to sea as SPARC Expedition Science Team membership and some routes to Scientific Drilling Expedition Science Team membership involve only shore-based participation.
