New Magellan3 Workshop MANI_IN_PASTA now open for registrations!
The community is invited to register for the Magellan3 workshop “MANI_IN_PASTA MAximising existing and New Information IN PAst circulation STAbility”
Aims: defining a clear idea and identifying the writing team for a SPARC proposal to be submitted to the 31/1/2027 deadline to investigate Antarctic bottom water formation and slowdown of Atlantic meridional overturning circulation during past warm periods. The focus will be on extracting the maximum information from existing drilling data from key deep-water formation sites in both hemispheres, with new consistent analytical approaches and machine learning. The expected impact is an increased understanding of hemispheric phase relationships allowing better forecasting of future scenarios in our warming world.
Workshop logistics:
Where: The workshop will be held in Trieste, Italy, with online hybrid participation possible.
When: Monday 11th May – Wednesday 13th January 2026
Participation at the workshop is free. Icebreaker, breaks and workshop dinner are all provided.
Funding for accommodation, and contribution towards travel expenses will be prioritised for keynote speakers and ECRs (PhD and <5 years post-PhD).
Organisers: Michele Rebesco (OGS), Cédric John (Queen Mary University London), Ester Piegari (University of Naples), Rob McKay (Victoria University of Wellington), Renata Lucchi (OGS), Minoru Ikehara (Kochi University), Giulia Matilde Ferrante (OGS)
